[Results] New Japan, 3/15/09

Shinsuke Nakamura lost to the "other" member of the three young guns heading New Japan's new generation today, causing him to go tumbling out of the New Japan Cup. After recently failing to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title from Tanahashi, Nakamura today faced his RISE cohort Hirooki Goto on the heels of defeating Makabe in round one. An intense and entertaining match finished with the big result of Goto lariating Nakamura for the win. Makabe came out after the match and challenged Nakamura to a rematch (possibly at Sumo Hall) putting the supernova at risk of losing to all of his similar generation rivals in quick succession. Goto will meet the man he lost to at the previous Sumo Hall show, Nagata, who defeated former tag partner turned dastardly rulebreaker Iizuka by disqualification. Despite the loss, Iizuka has still gone months and months without being pinned, today's result doing nothing to change that.

DRADITION ace Yutaka Yoshie is also going well, the monster having upset Nakanishi in the first round and today getting a more expected win over GBH's Ishii, ending a slugfest by dropping a diving body press on the WEW Heavyweight Champion. And Milano Collection AT's reawakening wasn't enough to get him past gaijin ace Giant Bernard who overcame the tricky technician with the Bernard Driver, setting up what should be a fun power fight with Yoshie in the semis.

The other big news today was the unexpected appearance of Takao Omori, who hit the ring and shook hands with former tag partner Nakanishi. They reigned as IWGP Tag Team Champions as Wild Child before splitting and having a series of singles matches. Omori recently quit ZERO1 to leave pro wrestling for a while -- his last appearance being a 30 minute draw with Chono in PREMIUM last year -- and suddenly appeared today. Wild Child look set to aim for the IWGP Tag Team Title now, with a possible match against Team 3D coming up.
