| –> “ CIRCUIT 2009 NEW JAPAN SOUL” <-- - Spoiler:
Apollo 55 finally found gold at Korakuen Hall today when they avenged their Sumo Hall loss from April to defeat the renowned Motor City Machine Guns and finally recapture the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title that NO LIMIT lost on January 4th. It was another exciting, high speed match that excited the fans and Super Jr. finalist Devitt showed just how far he has come by pinning Shelley after his Shingata (New) Prince's Throne to crown the 24th generation champions. That is one of two tag titles in TNA Wrestling custody now brought back home. ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion Masato Tanaka, known for leading 01 last year and into this year in the feud against New Japan, invaded after Tanahashi's match and laid out the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, supported by Jado and Gedo (remember him?). Tanaka had a motive for that which I'll discuss below and it seems like everyone has their eyes on industry ace Tanahashi and wants a piece of his title now. Wild Child reunited once more down the card to defeat Bernard & Anderson, who recently failed to win back the IWGP Tag Team Title from Team 3D. The Japanese big man team announced plans to target 3D's belts and bring them back to Japan shortly. Hirooki Goto cut down young lion Kazuchika Okada in the third match and announced that he planned to invade NOAH shortly. Goto, having just turned 30 and desperate for extra experience and growth to drive him to the top instead of the yo-yo form that is bothering him now, suggested taking Okada - who has come into the limelight despite losing in these interpromotional fights - with him. Goto said he can't accept his somewhat upset loss to Sugiura from recently and plans to do something about it. Yes, you read that right. Tomoaki Honma did pin Toru Yano though most with any insight to how New Japan cards go will know he didn't do it alone. Makabe, who you might remember Yano recently beat in a big singles match, interfered with his chain, laying Yano out so that Honma could drop his diving headbutt on the CHAOS man for a loss that is sure to embarrass him. NJPW, 7/5/09 (SXW) Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,000 Fans - Super No Vacancy 1. Milano Collection AT & Taichi beat Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA (11:33) when Milano used an inside cradle on AKIRA. 2. Tomoaki Honma beat Toru Yano (5:44) with a diving headbutt. 3. Hirooki Goto beat Kazuchika Okada (7:34) with the Shouten. 4. Manabu Nakanishi & Takao Omori beat Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson (7:03) when Nakanishi used the Dai*Nakanishi German on Anderson. 5. Yuji Nagata beat Tomohiro Ishii (13:02) with a backdrop hold. 6. Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Togi Makabe beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Takashi Iizuka (11:43) when Iizuka was DQ’d. 7. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tiger Mask beat Wataru Inoue & Koji Kanemoto (12:54) when Tanahashi used the High Fly Flow on Inoue. 8. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Ryusuke Taguchi & Prince Devitt beat Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin (c) (21:34) when Devitt used the Shingata Prince’s Throne on Shelley to become the 24th champions. - Takao Omori and Takashi Sugiura, the latter of whom could be IWGP Heavyweight Champion by August if he pulls off another upset, are two new names in the G1 Climax this year. 12 of the 14 participants for Japan’s biggest annual tournament were announced today. All of the others announced are home team members, including Takashi Iizuka’s first G1 participation since 2000, but two spots remain open - one of which Masato Tanaka has laid claim to. Supposing he gets it, that means one spot is free which could go to a New Japan wrestler (Chono is not listed again, despite being booked for most of the current tour) or another outsider. Group division has yet to be announced.
- Hiroshi Tanahashi (IWGP Heavyweight Champion / G1 Climax 2007 winner) - Hiroyoshi Tenzan (G1 Climax 2003, 2004 & 2006 winner) - Yuji Nagata (G1 Climax 2001 winner) - Manabu Nakanishi (G1 Climax 1999 winner) - Hirooki Goto (G1 Climax 2008 winner) - Togi Makabe (G1 Climax 2008 runner-up) - Shinsuke Nakamura - Toru Yano - Takashi Iizuka - Giant Bernard - Takashi Sugiura (Pro Wrestling NOAH) - Takao Omori (free) - X - X
